What Construction Debris Removal Means Here (and What It Doesn't)

Let's be clear about the job, since it saves everybody a phone call. Lakefront Junk Removal hauls away debris that's already been torn out. The cabinets are off the wall. The tile is up. The old deck is in a pile. We carry it, load it, sweep up and take it away.

We don't rent dumpsters. We don't demolish buildings, gut rooms or swing the sledgehammer for you. If you or your contractor have done the tearing out, we're the truck and the crew that makes the pile go away.

Haul-Away Crew vs. Renting a Bin: Which Fits Your Project

People often ask us for a dumpster. We don't have them. What we offer works differently, and for a lot of jobs it fits better.

If your project runs for weeks and makes debris every day, a bin from a dumpster company may be the right tool. If the mess already exists and you want it gone today or tomorrow, text us.

How the Carry-Out Works on a Remodel

Debris doesn't have to be at the curb or even on the ground floor. We carry from the second-floor bathroom, the basement, the back deck. Stairs are part of the job and don't add a fee.

Inside a house people are living in, the carry matters as much as the load. Rubble goes out in bags and bins, not dragged across the floor. Long pieces go out end first so they don't catch the door trim. When the pile's gone we sweep the spot. We're not a cleaning service, so think broom-swept, not dust-free.

Subdivision homes in Lindenhurst are a good example of the usual job: a kitchen or a bath redone, and the old one stacked in the garage waiting. That's a clean, quick pickup. If the project is a basement finish and the stuff stored down there has to go first, pair it with a basement clean out.

The Heavy Stuff: Tile, Plaster, Cast Iron Tubs and Shingles

Construction debris is dense. A bucket of tile weighs far more than a bucket of anything else in your house. Our price has no weight fee, but weight still changes how the work goes, so here's what to know.

Tile, mortar and plaster. Bag it in heavy contractor bags and stop at about half full. A full bag of tile tears open or can't be lifted at all. Buckets and small bins work too.

Cast iron tubs. The heaviest thing in most bathrooms. If it's already been broken up, the pieces have sharp edges, so box or bag them. If it's still whole, say so in your text so we send enough hands for the stairs.

Shingles. Roofing tear-off is heavy, gritty and full of nails. Keep it on a tarp so the nails don't end up in the lawn or the driveway.

Drywall. Lighter than tile, but it soaks up rain and turns to paste. Keep it under cover.

Staging the Pile: A Prep Checklist for Homeowners and Contractors

  • Put everything in one place if you can. Garage and driveway piles load fastest.
  • Stack lumber and trim in the same direction, with nails bent over or facing down.
  • Roll carpet and pad into short sections and tape them. Bundle tack strip separately. It bites.
  • Tape an X across old window panes and mirrors, and stand glass on edge.
  • Knock old cabinet boxes flat if you have the time. Flat takes less room.
  • Keep metal together: ductwork, pipe, wire, the old sink. It gets recycled.
  • Keep paint cans, solvents and anything questionable out of the pile.
  • Cover the pile if rain's coming.
  • Can't be there? Leave the garage open or tell us where the pile is. We'll handle it without you.

What Construction Debris Pickup Is Priced On

Volume. How much of the truck your debris fills: a quarter, a half, three-quarters or all of it. You get one flat number, and it has the labor, the loading, the sweep-up and the disposal in it. No hourly rate and no fuel surcharge.

A photo is enough for most piles. For a big one, like a whole-house flooring tear-out or a garage packed to the door, we'll come take a free look. It takes about 15 minutes. Either way you approve the price before work starts. The details are on our pricing page.

How you stack changes the tier. Doors and drywall sheets laid flat beat a jumbled heap. In lake towns like Wauconda, where an older cottage remodel can turn out a surprising amount of paneling, plaster and old flooring, a tight stack can be the difference between one tier and the next. Distance inside Lake County doesn't add anything.

Older Homes, Asbestos and What Can't Go on the Truck

We can't take asbestos. That matters on remodels of older houses, where it can turn up in old floor tile and the glue under it, pipe wrap, some siding and textured ceilings. You can't tell by looking. If your house is old enough that you're wondering, get the material tested before it's torn out, and use an abatement contractor if it comes back positive.

The other no-go items are the usual jobsite leftovers: wet paint, solvents, motor oil, gasoline and propane tanks. For Lake County IL residents, SWALCO runs household chemical waste collection and takes that kind of thing. Keep those out of the pile and the rest of the job is simple.

Remodel Debris Pickup in Racine and Kenosha Counties

We haul in southeast Wisconsin too. Older homes in Racine get the same remodels as the ones on our side of the line, and the debris is the same plaster, lath and old trim.

Two things are different. For Wisconsin jobs, the price is confirmed by text before the truck leaves, so there's no question about the number once we're rolling. And for paint and chemicals, use your county's household hazardous waste collection.

Where Renovation Debris Ends Up, and What Else We Can Take

After we pull away, the load gets split up. Metal goes to scrap recycling, and remodels produce a lot of it: ducts, pipe, wire, sinks, steel tubs. Cabinets, doors and fixtures in usable shape go to donation. What's left goes to a licensed transfer station.

Remodels also kick out things that aren't debris. The old range, dishwasher and fridge can go on the same truck as old appliance pickup, and anything with refrigerant has it recovered before the metal is scrapped. Shrubs and limbs cut back to make room for a new deck can ride along as brush hauling.

We work Monday through Saturday, 7am to 7pm, Sundays by appointment, and same-day or next-day slots are often open. Text a photo to (224) 944-8652 or send the details online.

Construction Debris Removal Questions

Do you rent dumpsters for remodels?

No. We don't rent dumpsters or drop off bins. We're a crew with a truck. You pile the debris, we come once, carry it out, load it and take it away. If your project will make debris every day for weeks, a bin from a dumpster company may suit you better. For a finished tear-out, one visit from us usually does it.

Will your crew tear out my old kitchen or bathroom?

No. We don't do demolition, and that goes for a single room as much as a whole building. Our job starts once things are already torn out. Cabinets off the wall, tile off the floor, tub disconnected and loose. If you or your contractor handle the tear-out, we handle everything after that, including carrying it out of the house.

Can contractors use you for jobsite debris pickups?

Yes. Text a photo of the pile and the address, get one flat price by truck space, and pick a slot. Nobody needs to meet us if the pile is reachable. It suits remodelers who don't want to tie up a trailer or pull a worker off the job for a dump run. We haul and sweep. We don't do final cleaning.

Do you take old countertops, including granite or quartz?

Yes. Laminate tops are light and easy. Stone slabs are heavy and can snap under their own weight, so they're carried on edge, not flat. If a slab is already off the cabinets, lean it upright against a wall. If it broke coming off, stack the pieces flat on the floor near the door. Heavy doesn't cost extra.

The debris is in the basement or upstairs. Does that cost more?

No. There's no stairs fee. The crew carries from wherever the debris sits, and basements, attics and upstairs rooms are routine. Bagging loose rubble and keeping the stairs clear makes the carry quicker and easier on your walls. The price is still based only on how much truck space the debris fills.

How do I know if old flooring or ceiling texture has asbestos?

You can't tell by looking. The only way to know is to have a sample tested by a lab before the material is disturbed. If it comes back positive, it needs an abatement contractor, and we can't haul it. If it's clean, tear it out and text us. When in doubt on an older house, test first.

Can you come more than once during a long remodel?

Yes. Some jobs make one pile after the tear-out and another at the end, with cardboard, cut-offs and leftover material. Each pickup is its own visit and gets its own flat price by truck space, approved before we load. Text a photo each time and we'll find a slot that fits your schedule.

What should I do with leftover paint, stain and thinner?

Keep them out of the debris pile. We can't take wet paint or solvents. Lake County IL residents can bring them to SWALCO's household chemical waste collection. On the Wisconsin side, your county's household hazardous waste collection takes them. Empty metal cans with nothing wet left inside can go in with the scrap.
