Estate and Farmstead Cleanouts in Old Mill Creek
When a property here changes hands, there's often a main house, a barn or two and decades of belongings to deal with. The family sorting it out may not live anywhere close.
We treat it as one project. It starts with a free walk-through, which takes about fifteen minutes. You get a single flat price for everything you want gone. Then we work through it building by building. Our estate and farmhouse clearing page covers what to set aside before the crew arrives.
You don't have to be on site for any of it. It can all be arranged by phone and text, with a relative, a neighbor or your real estate agent opening the door.
Reaching Old Mill Creek Properties by Truck
The village is farm country in the north part of Lake County. Route 173 runs across the top, Route 45 comes down the west side, Hunt Club Road sits in between and I-94 is just to the east. We come over from Waukegan on those roads.
Out here an address can be a long way from the pavement. Tell us about gates, gate codes, private lanes and which building the stuff is in. Sometimes a dropped pin on a map helps more than a house number.
After that it's four steps. A photo by text to (224) 944-8652. One price back. A slot that suits you, and openings the same day or the day after are common. Then carry-out, sweep-up and the truck heading back down your lane.
What Old Mill Creek Homes and Barns Hold
This is horse country. Tempel Farms and its Lipizzans are the best-known name in the village, and much of the land around is pasture, hayfield and fence line.
Homes on land like this have space most houses don't. A full attic over a large house. A basement as big as a ranch home. A tack room, a loft, a tool shed. Space fills. Old bedroom sets, trunks, rolled-up rugs, a dining table that seats twelve, boxes of paperwork from a business that closed long ago.
Lofts and attics are the hard part, with steep stairs and no room to turn around. That's routine work for us, and attic and loft cleanouts are priced like anything else.
Down below, a stone-walled cellar or a finished lower level gets the same treatment through our basement junk removal.
Appliance, Scrap Metal and Brush Pickup
Country properties tend to keep a spare of everything. A second fridge in the barn. A chest freezer in the garage. The old range that got saved for canning season. When they quit, they sit. We haul fridges, freezers, washers, dryers, ranges, dishwashers and water heaters, and units with refrigerant have it recovered before the metal is scrapped. That's all part of fridge and freezer haul-away.
Metal is the other big category. Gates, steel posts, shelving, sheet metal, bed frames, bikes. If it's scrap, it goes to scrap recycling.
Then there's the green stuff. Fence rows grow up, storms drop limbs, and a burn pile isn't always an option. We load brush, limbs and other yard waste, which Illinois keeps out of landfills. More at storm limb and brush hauling.
- Refrigerators, freezers and other appliances
- Gates, posts, pipe and other scrap metal
- Old fence boards and lumber
- Brush piles and downed limbs
Old Mill Creek Junk Hauling Rates
Space on the truck is what you're buying. We quote a quarter truck, a half, three quarters or a full load, and a large property may need the truck more than once. You'll know the total before the first item moves.
Built into every quote: the labor, the loading, the sweep-up and the disposal. Left out of every quote: hourly billing, fuel surcharges, weight fees and stairs fees. Old Mill Creek is a drive from our home city, but we don't charge for distance inside Lake County, so the drive is on us.
Quotes are free. Photos work for most jobs and a free visit works for the big ones. See our volume-based price breakdown for how the truck sizes compare.
Sorting an Old Mill Creek Load After Pickup
A farmstead load is a mix. Solid old furniture, rusted steel, a console TV, rotten lumber and bags of plain trash can all come out of one building.
We split it up afterward. Pieces with life left in them go to donation, and older homes often have plenty. The metal is hauled to scrap recycling. TVs, computers and other electronics go to an electronics recycler, since Illinois bans them from landfills. Whatever is left goes to a licensed transfer station.
Neighbors east of the tollway get the same handling. We run junk removal in Wadsworth and, to the southwest, hauling for Lindenhurst homes.
What We Leave for SWALCO
Old barns and workshops collect the very things a junk truck can't carry. Motor oil. Gasoline. Solvents. Wet paint. Propane tanks. We also have to pass on asbestos, ammunition and medical waste.
For the oil, paint and chemicals, Lake County residents have SWALCO, the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County, which runs household chemical waste collection. Pull those items to one side and we'll clear the rest of the building.
Three other things we don't do out here: we don't tear down barns or houses, we don't drop off dumpsters and we don't run a moving or cleaning service.
